The name of what will become Blackpool's only five-star hotel has been confirmed as the Sands Venue Resort hotel.
Set to open in summer 2019, the 96-bedroom property is being developed by Coolsilk Property & Investment, near to Blackpool Tower. North West builder Warden Construction has been awarded the contract to build the property, which has been designed by Frank Whittle Partnership and is expected to have a gross development value of £15m to £18m on completion. Sands Venue Resort hotel replaces the former 96-bedroom Palatine hotel, a Victorian building demolished in the 1970s.
It will feature penthouse suites on the corner aspects of the hotel, providing views over the promenade and Irish Sea.
Peter and Karin Swann, directors of Coolsilk, said: "Our new hotel and leisure facility is a real confidence booster for Blackpool and we want to make sure our investment benefits local people and the local economy as much as possible.
"We believe Blackpool is a resort that is on the up following the hard-work of the council and other stakeholders in securing funding for new infrastructure and public realm improvements to the town. This has created the right conditions for attracting private sector investment."
Peter Swann is the chairman of Scunthorpe United FC.
