The original Greens in Didsbury, Manchester, closed in January this year after 33 years of trading.
Chef Simon Rimmer’s remaining Greens restaurant in Sale, Greater Manchester, has closed with “immediate effect”.
The restaurant revealed its board of directors and shareholders decided to permanently close Greens Sale today (17 September), two years after Rimmer launched the site with business partner Simon Connolly.
Posting on Instagram, Greens Sale added: “We’ve done everything possible to make this work, but it is now clear the business is untenable. We’d like to thank everyone, team members and guests, who have been on the Greens journey with us.”
It comes eight months after Rimmer closed Greens Restaurant in Didsbury following 33 years of trading.
At the time of the closure in January, he said: “Our landlords have increased our rent by on the region of 35%. The cost of raw materials the cost of heat, light and power, employing people and general food costs has meant that the business unfortunately has become unviable so with immediate effect we’ve unfortunately shut the door.”
Rimmer told The Caterer in 2006 that Greens was “incredibly popular” and turned down 600 bookings every week.
