New Palé Hall owners plan to add spa and extra restaurant

The freehold of Palé Hall Hotel & Restaurant in Llandderfel, Wales, has been sold to private buyers Anthony and Donna Barney of Baslow Holdings Developments.

Angela and Alan Harper had owned the 22-bedroom, five-AA-red-star country house hotel set within 50 acres of landscaped gardens for the past decade.

The couple put the property up for sale with a guide price of £6m in February as they planned to retire.

The hotel dates back to 1871 and was refurbished in 2015. It has a grand hall, reception room, library, dining room, bar and a fine dining restaurant which holds three AA rosettes and a Michelin green star.

The new owners plan to add another restaurant to the hotel, a spa with an organic dining space and potentially extra bedrooms.

The Barneys said they were “keen to maintain Palé Hall as it is”, with Debbie Cappadona remaining as the general manager, alongside much of the current team.

Cappadona joined Palé Hall Hotel & Restaurant in 2019, taking over from Harry Shepherd.

Tom Cunningham, director in the hotels team at Savills, which marketed the property, said: “The sale of Palé Hall provided the purchaser with the chance to acquire the freehold of an exceptional hotel, as well as a profitable business with value-add opportunities.

“Given its stunning location and strong fundamentals it is unsurprising that we were able to find a new owner who will continue its legacy.”

Baslow Holdings Limited was founded in 2014 and includes brands such as Countrywide Park Homes and Countrywide Holidays.
