The freehold of Palé Hall Hotel & Restaurant in Llandderfel, Wales, has been put up for sale for £6m as the owners prepare for retirement.
Angela and Alan Harper, who have owned the 22-room luxury country house for the past decade, said: “We are very proud of everything which has been achieved at Palé Hall and will be sad to leave the hotel and the wonderful management team. But it’s time to hand over to a new owner.”
The property is set within 50 acres of landscaped gardens and originally dates back to 1871. Divided into a basement, ground and two upper floors, the hotel also features a grand hall, traditional reception room, library, bar, dining room, a breakfast room, staff accommodation, 18 bedrooms and four garden suites.
It is home to the three-AA-rosette and green Michelin star-winning fine dining restaurant headed up by Welsh Chef of the Year 2021 Sam Griffiths and sommelier Garry Clark.
The hotel completed a significant refurbishment in 2015 and has been led by general manager Debbie Cappadona for the past six years.
It also received five AA red stars in 2017, becoming the first hotel in north Wales to receive the accolade.
Palé Hall Hotel & Restaurant upgraded its hydroelectric system turbine, which dates back to 1921, that year.
Tom Cunningham, director of Savills, who are managing the sale, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to acquire the freehold to a luxury, impeccably designed hotel which is finished to an exceptional standard and has strong fundamentals to provide a good return on investment.
"The hotel is the only one of its kind in the area and attracts visitors from all over the globe. There is also existing planning permission to re-develop two further outbuildings into serviced units, which could provide an extra 3-5 rooms or spa facilities.”
