Nine Group to reopen Chequers hotel in Horley, Surrey

Hotel investment company Nine Group is to undertake an extensive-multi-million pound renovation of the 110-bedroom Chequers hotel in Horley, Surrey, after acquiring the property for over £5m.

Located close to Gatwick Airport, the hotel and adjacent pub have been closed since 2013 when parent company Cordial Hotels went into administration. It was one of 15 hotels that operated under the Menzies banner, but when the brand was sold to Topland it was among three hotels not included in the sale.

Vivek Chadha, the founder of Nine Group, now intends to transform the property into a four star hotel with an international brand.

He said that he was "delighted" to be able to create 60 jobs by reopening the hotel. "We'll be bringing new life into the area, putting this landmark hotel back on the map.

"Nine Group are investing substantially in the renovation to transform this Victorian building into an internationally branded hotel. We plan to retain the hotel's famous on-site pub as a destination for locals and guests alike to enjoy a drink."

The Nine Group portfolio includes a mixture of residential properties and franchised hotels operating under global brands including the Mercure St Albans Noke Hotel, Crowne Plaza Basingstoke and the Novotel London Heathrow Airport.

Chadha was recently announced as a rising star for London and south in the EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards 2017.
