The latest hospitality venues to open their doors across the UK in July 2024
With the Euros and Wimbledon in full swing this month, the UK hospitality scene is brimming with just as much energy. In the spirit of friendly international competition, we have a whole range of cuisines entering the market, including Bangladeshi street food and sharing plates restaurant Dhakaah in London’s Camden, as well as Kolamba’s second outpost in Shoreditch, which offers dishes paying homage to the founders’ childhood memories of Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Burmese restaurant Lahpet, famed for its coconut noodles with chicken, is preparing to open its third site in London’s Bermondsey.

Heartwood Collection has opened its second pub with rooms, the Ropemaker in Emsworth. The 43-bedroom property features a ground floor pub with a fireplace, central island bar, dining room, three beach huts and an extended outdoor terrace. Meanwhile, the bedrooms include rainfall showers, Bramley toiletries and Roberts radios.

Keith and Lorna Taylor, the pair behind Taylor’s of Maltby Street Market and Goodluck Hope groceries, have opened a new waterfront bar and deli in London’s Canning Town. It offers a range of small and sharing plates with a farm shop-to-table ethos, such as masala beans on sourdough crumpets with cacklebean eggs.

Living Rooms, the group behind London residences such as No. 5 Maddox Street in Mayfair and the Laslett hotel in Notting Hill, has launched its seventh property in Marylebone. 65 Harley Street resides in a Grade II-listed building and features 10 apartments ranging between one and two bedrooms. The minimum length of stay is five nights.

Dominic Jacobs and JKS Restaurants have launched their third London pub, following on from the George and the Cadogan Arms. The Hound is housed in a Victorian police station in Chiswick and offers a reception room, two private dining rooms, a covered outdoor courtyard and a front terrace. Dishes have been created by executive chef John Sparks with culinary director James Knappett of Kitchen Table in London’s Fitzrovia.

Japanese ramen chain Kanada-Ya is expanding into London’s Shepherd’s Bush with the launch of its sixth restaurant. The 86-cover site at Westfield shopping centre will serve the group’s signature Tonkotsu ramen. The pork-bone broth is simmered for 18 hours to add depths of flavour.

Community food market Mercato Metropolitano has partnered with Redbridge Council to open its fifth London site in Ilford. Mercato Ilford will house a range of stalls offering Ethiopian, Indian, Turkish and Jamaican cuisines. Afuego by Yassir Chair, a graduate of the Mercato DreaMM incubator programme, will have a permanent stand.

Seven Dials market in London’s Covent Garden is welcoming Jollof Mama, the brainchild of husband and wife duo Sam and Tieyan. The concept first started on Kerb’s incubator programme and offers dishes such as African burritos, jollof rice and suya.

Siblings Kirk and Keeley Haworth have launched Plates in London’s Shoreditch following a Menu of the Year-winning residency in London’s Dalston. The restaurant offers diners a seven- or eight-course tasting menu, including Kirk’s top-scoring dishes from Great British Menu, such as Feast of Farah, a charcoal lasagne with mung and urad bean served with baby turnip, morel, rainbow chard and a miso and chive sauce. Chef Jakob Grant, who was formerly at Sargasso in Margate and Bouchon Racine in London’s Farringdon, has opened his first solo restaurant in Deal. Cherub’s, which is located on the first floor of the Bohemian pub, offers a selection of classic dishes showcasing suppliers such as butcher Black Pig, fishmonger Jenkins & Son and greengrocer Lavender and Blackberry.

Alpine-inspired beer hall Albert’s Schloss has opened in London’s Piccadilly following a £7m investment. The day-to-night venue is set over two floors with capacity for 600 guests and also offers five bars, a stage, and an on-site bakery serving Bavarian treats.

Tom Noest and Peter Creed are set to open their fifth venue, the 120-cover Tivoli pub in Cheltenham. Furniture is being sourced from local antique fairs and the seasonal menu showcases nose-to-tail cuisine. Pub snacks and daily specials will also be available.

The trio behind the Marksman Public House in London’s Hackney and modern British restaurant Lasdun, which opened at the National Theatre on London’s Southbank last year, have launched a summer terrace offering a selection of filled buns, vermouth and soda as well as Nyetimber English sparkling wine.

The Great Bustard pub, restaurant and farm shop with rooms is due to open later this month in Wiltshire. The countryside getaway is named after the world’s heaviest flying bird and offers 10 bedrooms with superking beds, a treatment room showcasing Durnford products and farm-to-table dining from head chef Jordan Taylor.

Yotel has chosen London’s Stratford as the location for its first Yotelpad in Europe. The latest iteration of the aparthotel concept, which first launched in Park City, Utah, offers 62 ‘pads’, all of which are equipped with kitchenettes and occupancy sensors that can control lighting. Stays range from one-night to monthly, with a selection of room sizes and layouts available.

East London hotel One Hundred Shoreditch is collaborating with chef Ilknur Celik to open Eastern Mediterranean restaurant Kaso. Located on the hotel’s seventh-floor rooftop, Kaso features a selection of hot and cold mezzes that can be paired to cocktails curated by head bartender Victor Gervasio.

Irina Linovich, founder of Holy Carrot, is set to launch the plant-based brand’s first permanent restaurant in London’s Notting Hill. The 50-cover flagship restaurant will also offer a 12-cover outdoor terrace and a menu created by executive chef Daniel Watkins, co-founder of Dalston’s Acme Fire Cult.

Eroshan and Aushi Meewella are opening their second restaurant, Kolamba East, in London’s Shoreditch, five years after the pair first launched the Sri Lankan restaurant in London’s Soho. Dishes will pay homage to their childhood memories of Colombo, with recipes celebrating the diversity of Sinhalese, Tamil, Moor, Burger (Dutch) and Malay communities. Menu items range from ‘short eats’ to feasting plates.

Rotisserie chicken restaurant Cocotte is set to open a 62-cover site in London’s Richmond. The group launched its first venue in London’s Notting Hill in 2016 before opening further restaurants across Parson’s Green, Queen’s Park, Shoreditch and South Kensington. Its signature chicken is marinated for 24 hours in a secret blend of herbs and spices and cooked until crispy at the skin. For the first time in its eight-year history, Cocotte will introduce beef onto its menu.

Dan Anton and Zaw Mahesh, who are behind Burmese restaurant Lahpet in London’s Shoreditch and West End, are set to launch the 90-cover Lahpet Larder in Bermondsey. Head chef Jan Ivanov and sous chef Tin Aung Khaing will offer dishes incorporating ingredients imported directly from Myanmar.

Bangladeshi restaurant Dhakaah is due to open in London’s Camden Market later this month. Named after the country’s dynamic capital, the restaurant will offer a selection of street food-inspired bar snacks, as well as a variety of small and bigger plates, including beef kathi rolls, spiced mezbani beef curries and fuchka.
