Cowley Manor and Parakeet pub among new additions to Michelin Guide

Eighteen restaurants including the Parakeet pub in London and Cowley Manor in the Cotswolds have been added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland’s selection this month.

The red book’s inspectors are on the road year-round and update its listings monthly with additions highlighted by a ‘New’ symbol on the Michelin app and website.

It will not be confirmed if they will receive a Michelin star, Bib Gourmand, Michelin Plate, or other award until the next formal Michelin Guide ceremony.

Cowley Manor hotel was reopened by Experimental Group in July after a six-month renovation with chef Jackson Boxer overseeing the food as chef consultant. Michelin said the “vibrant” cooking was “worthy of the rather lovely setting”.

The guide also praised the “big, gutsy” cooking at Parakeet in Kentish Town. The pub has won rave reviews since it was launched by the team behind Blues Kitchen earlier this year with two ex-Brat chefs in the kitchen.

There were three Scottish additions to the guide, including 12-cover chef’s table restaurant eòrna in Edinburgh, which is run by chef Brian Grigor and sommelier Glen Montgomery with no other staff.

Ballater restaurant and fishmonger Fish Shop, which is the sister property to the Fife Arms, was singled out for its fresh produce, while the guide also praised tiny basement restaurant Skua in Edinburgh for its “impressive” cooking.

Other new additions included Welsh restaurant Touring Club in Penarth, which was launched by four partners including chef Bryn Williams in May.

In London, Michelin praised Studio Frantzén, the first UK restaurant from Swedish chef Björn Frantzén which opened at Harrods department store this year. There was also recognition for Brazilian restaurant Bossa near Oxford Street and Tomos Parry’s Mountain in Soho.
