Michelin reveals new Bib Gourmands for 2022 guide

Sixteen restaurants have been awarded Bib Gourmands in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2022.

The new additions were revealed on social media ahead of the virtual announcement of the new starred restaurants on 15-16 February.

The Bib Gourmand recognises both quality and value of food, and are awarded to restaurants offering three courses for under £30.

In London, new additions included Russell Norman's Trattoria Brutto in Clerkenwell, as well as Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, which was founded by Syrian refugee Imad Alarnab.

There were six new restaurants awarded Bibs across the rest of England, including Raz Helalat’s Burnt Orange in Brighton and Sargasso in Margate, which is run by the team behind London’s Brawn restaurant and serves up fresh fish from local boats.

In the Republic of Ireland, Cush in Ballycotton entered the guide for its hearty dishes featuring local Cork produce, while artisan bakery, restaurant and wine bar Éan in Galway and bistro Everett’s in Waterford are promoted to a Bib Gourmand.

Both the new Scottish Bibs were awarded to restaurants in Glasgow. Ka Pao was promoted to a Bib for its Asian-inspired cooking, while Celentano's won the award for its modern, Italian-influenced cooking, made with Scottish ingredients.

There were no new Bib Gourmands awarded to restaurants in Wales or Northern Ireland.

Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guides, said: “We are excited to reveal these 16 new Bib Gourmand awards ahead of the full presentation of our 2022 selection.

“Bib Gourmands are an important part of our selection and are particularly popular with our readers and users, who are always on the lookout for wonderful food at great prices.

“All these restaurants are to be congratulated for what they have achieved in these very challenging times.”

Michelin told The Caterer they would not be releasing a list of Bib Gourmand deletions. However, it appears 20 restaurants have lost their Bibs, based on the number which held the award in the 2021 edition.

The guide said it will publish the full list of restaurants with Bib Gourmands on its website here once the new stars are revealed on 16 February.

In total, there are 122 Bib Gourmand restaurants in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2022, of which 16 are new additions.
