Michael O’Hare closes Psycho Sandbar

Michael O’Hare has closed Leeds restaurant Psycho Sandbar seven months after rebranding the restaurant.

The restaurant opened this year as Psycho Sandbar having been run by O’Hare as the Man Behind the Curtain since 2014. It was awarded a Michelin star in 2015.

Its new format, which was run by the same team, was described as a “fish-heavy” restaurant with a “surf shack” feel and brutalist design.

O’Hare said: “I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved over the last decade. We’ve had some amazing moments and I’m so thankful for everyone that has played their part, either as guests or as part of the team.

He added that “the decision is very much based upon my exciting plans for the future” before admitting that the closure was “reflective of the changing experience market we all live in”.

It is the second high profile closure in a week after Simon Wood announced the closure of his restaurant Wood Manchester.

O’Hare said: “We’ve achieved so much and Leeds will always be special to me, I’m honoured to have played my part in the culinary history of this great city.

“I’m excited for the future and the next steps in my journey.”
