Spanish hotel group Meliá Hotels International is to enter Liverpool with the launch of its contemporary city centre brand Innside by Meliá.
The 200-bedroom Innside Liverpool will join a sister property in Manchester, which opened with 208 bedrooms in 2015. A further three Innside hotels are in the pipeline for Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow.
Due to open in 2019, Innside Liverpool will be part of a new development close to the River Mersey and a seven-minute walk from the city centre. The property, which will feature a rooftop restaurant and fitness facilities, is being developed in partnership with the hotel owner, Trinity Group and Trinistar Liverpool.
Gabriel Escarrer, vice-chairman and chief executive of Meliá Hotels International, said the Innside by Meliá had a popular international appeal and was the strongest-growing brand within the company portfolio, which also incorporates Gran Meliá, Meliá Hotels & Resorts, Paradisus Resorts, ME by Meliá, Tryp by Wyndham and Sol Hotels.
"This has attracted investors and hotel owners from all over the world to the brand," he added. "Innside Liverpool will be an attractive new resort for the city and we are excited to partner with Trinity Group and Trinistar Liverpool. We share important values, such as a focus on innovation and excellence, and are pleased to be collaborating on this exciting new signing."
Innside by Meliá is currently located in 40 sites, while Meliá Hotels International has a total of 370 hotels worldwide.
As well as the Innside Manchester, Meliá also currently operates two other hotels in the UK: the 581-bedroom Meliá White House in Regent's Park, London, and the 157-bedroom ME London, on Aldwych.
