Mark Hix planning three to five new restaurants under Hixter name

Mark Hix's Restaurants Etc could open between three and five more restaurants under the Hixter name, with the next opening as early as mid-2014.

The news comes as the first Hixter is set to open in London's Devonshire Square next week (Monday 2 December).

Hixter, which sits near to Liverpool Street station in the City of London, will offer a chicken and steak-based menu, similar to that of Shoreditch's Tramshed, which opened in 2012. At the time, Tramshed was a marked departure from Hix's earlier restaurants, which include Hix Oyster & Chop House in London's Cowcross Street, and Hix Oyster & Fish House in Lyme Regis.

Speaking to Caterer and Hotelkeeper, Hix said: "Chicken and steak is working for us and what we don't want to do is have lots of restaurants that replicate the previous ones. The chicken and steak thing is a specific menu and style, and something we want to do more of, so there will be more Hixters coming up."

Ratnesh Bagdai, Hix's business partner and finance director of the group, added: "We feel that the name Hixter, and the concept of chicken and steak the way Mark wants it, is what we want to do for the next three to five sites. We feel that the price point and the style of that offer is what London wants."

But Bagdai said it was too early to say where in London the next Hixter could be located. "There are a couple of sites we are lining up but nothing is concrete. Anything could happen legally but I would be very surprised if we don't have an opening for the middle of next year," he said.

At Devonshire Square, the ground floor restaurant will have a 100-cover dining room, and diners can choose either a whole Swainson House Farm roast chicken for 2-3 to share, including chips for £25, a 250 or 500g Glenarm mighty-marbled steak at £20 and £40, a 1kg porterhouse at £69 or kilo rib steaks coming in multiples of 250g all served with chips and Bearnaise, along with the option of starters and desserts.

The new city site will also be home to a second Mark's Bar, which will be housed in the basement offering a similar cocktail menu and food experience to that of the Soho site. It will have a 2.30am licence.

The restaurant will boast artwork from artists including Gary Webb, Tim Noble and Sue Webster, and Peter Newman.

Hix's Restaurants Etc has eight sites, and the new City site will be its ninth.
