London Hotel Group given green light for 221-room aparthotel

The London Hotel Group has been given the green light to develop a £40m, 221-room aparthotel in south west London.

The 40,000 sq ft development will occupy a vacant half-acre brownfield site on Tooting High Street that had previously received planning permission for a residential scheme.

It will include a cafe, restaurant, and public green space, as well as a rebuilt community club house incorporating a landscaped courtyard, children's play area and cafe.

Christian Desira, LHG director, said: "Our new £40million apart-hotel development responds to the needs of the local community by creating a purpose-built community hub, as well as meeting a currently unfulfilled need for hotel accommodation for visitors, in and around the Tooting area.

"The aparthotel will be operated by a well-known international hotel brand and will achieve a four star rating."

Previously used as the Tooting Constitutional Club, the buildings and external areas have sat vacant since 2013. LHG acquired the site in last August with an existing planning consent for 45 residential units.

The aparthotel development is expected to begin late summer (August 2018) with opening scheduled for August 2020.
