Kevin Fawkes has been appointed executive chef at the Athenaeum Hotel & Residencies in London’s Mayfair.
He joins from Six Senses Zighy Bay in Oman, where he was executive chef, to replace Ian Howard, who joined the Athenaeum as executive chef of Galvin at the Athenaeum in 2019.
Fawkes started his career as a sous chef at the Savoy in 2001 before working for restaurants by Sir Terence Conran as well as the Rosewood Hotel & Resort in Saudi Arabia, the Nai Harn in Thailand and the flagship Soneva Fushi in the Maldives.
He has also been involved in chef consultancy projects at Le Bouchon restaurant in Bangkok and the Glass Blowing House restaurant in Plymouth.
He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be taking on the role of executive chef at the Athenaeum Hotel & Residences. After many years of cooking around the globe, London has always been a firm favourite of mine so the opportunity to return and work in a venue with such a collaborative and harmonious atmosphere is extremely exciting."
James Brackley, food and beverage manager at the Athenaeum Hotel & Residences, added: “We’re thrilled to have Kevin join the Athenaeum family, heading up the kitchen team here at the hotel. Bringing with him a copious amount of experience and expertise, we’re looking forward to both continuing and elevating our current F&B offering.”
The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences has been family-run since the 1990s and is at 116 Piccadilly, which was known as Hope House in the 1850s.
