Kerth Gumbs is to leave Boiler & Co at the beginning of July after five months cooking at the restaurant on London's South Bank.
Gumbs joined Boiler & Co for its launch in February as head chef, but The Caterer has learned he will be serving his final tasting menu on 2 July 2022, before spending the summer in the Caribbean leading a pop-up with Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla.
“I’m very pleased with the positive reception my Caribbean-inspired tasting menu received at Boiler & Co,” Gumbs told The Caterer.
“I’m very thankful for the team I’ve had beside me which allowed us to produce and share that culinary experience with all the old and new guests in a very open and approachable environment.
“I look forward to my pop up at Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla as it’s particularly special to me having the opportunity to bring my style of food to home soil.”
Boiler & Co launched at the former Camino site at 5 Canvey Street and founded by Adam Carr and Cesar Breton. The concept is inspired by caramel-coloured beverages such as beer, whiskey and coffee that get their signature depth and body from the boilers they're produced in.
Gumbs, the former head chef at Ormer Mayfair and a Great British Menu 2020 finalist, designed a seven-course tasting menu priced at £65 with an optional cocktail pairing for a further £40. Dishes include roast scallops with carrots and a curried lobster butter sauce; aged duck with tamarind, turnip and bitter leaves; and Conkie dumpling with sweet potato and vanilla.
Breton said: “Following our successful and much-anticipated launch in February 2022, Kerth Gumbs’ chef residency serving his tantalising seven-course tasting menu at Boiler & Co. has come to an end. After delighting many diners over the last few months, Kerth’s last serving of the tasting menu will be on the 2 July 2022.
“We are thankful to have had Kerth steer the kitchen towards culinary creativity during the first few months of our opening and we’re looking forward to other chef residencies in the future. In the meantime, Boiler & Co. will continue to serve delicious drinks and food as a specialty cocktail and gastro bar in the capital.”
