The 17-bedroom property in Bath was sold off a guide price of £4m.
Kaleidoscope hotels has acquired the Grade I-listed Dukes hotel in Bath off a guide price of £4m as it seeks to consolidate its presence in the south-west of England.
Dukes is a 17-bedroom hotel on Great Pulteney Street occupying two townhouses dating back to the 18th century. It was previously known as St Monica’s until it was rebranded as Dukes in 1985, in a nod to the Duke of Clevedon.
Under Kaleidoscope hotels, Dukes will receive an extensive refurbishment across all bedrooms and public areas. A boutique wellness facility will also be added.
Existing staff will continue to oversee the property.
Ian Taylor, co-owner of Kaleidoscope Hotels, said: “As Dukes integrates into the Kaleidoscope portfolio, the focus will be on continuing to bring our playful spirit into the hospitality world, whilst fostering a sense of community among the brilliant team, and bringing them into the family with a smooth transition.”
James Greenslade, director, hotel capital markets at Savills, who conducted the sale on an off market basis, added: “This exceptional property is the perfect addition to the buyers portfolio of stunning hotels. The hotel has been tastefully decorated with antiques and fine art, and there are several opportunities to increase its offering subject to planning permissions. Dukes will remain open offering excellent service to their customers.”
Kaleidoscope hotels was founded by Ian and Christa Taylor and also owns the Bird in Bath, the Bishopstrow in Wiltshire, and Homewood in Somerset.
