Jude Kereama to open third restaurant on the Cornish coast

Jude Kereama, chef-patron of Kota and Kota Koi, is to open his third restaurant on the Cornish coast.

Kota Kuki – kuki meaning chef in Māori – will open in Carnon Downs in a complex of 47 luxury apartments called the Valley.

The restaurant, which will be open to the public, will be in the same style as Kota, which sits on the harbourfront of Porthleven, but with a more casual lunch service.

Kereama said: “The restaurant is 50-60 seats, all situated around the garden and swimming pool. It’s really nice – the whole area is just beautiful.

“We’ll be serving small plates of fresh Cornish produce with a very slight Asian twist. Lunchtimes will be casual with a more serious note in the evenings.”

Alongside the restaurant Kereama will be opening a wine shop and offering barbecue packs for holidaymakers staying in the Valley, which will include fresh seafood and locally reared meat.

A New Zealander by birth, Kereama climbed the kitchen ladder in Christchurch and Palmerston North before landing an opportunity to work in Auckland as sous chef to restaurateur, celebrity chef and food writer Simon Gault.

He went on to spent 10 years in London working at a host of restaurants, including Antony Worrall Thompson's 190 Queen's Gate before relocating to Porthleven in Cornwall.

Kota Kuki is planned to open its doors in early April.
