Any restaurants, cafés or hotels using meat from the cutting plant in Kent have been told to withdraw the items immediately.
Hospitality operators in London and south-east England have been urged to stop using meat and meat products supplied by a cutting plant in Swanley, Kent, after the Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a food safety alert.
The FSA has summoned the Environmental Health and Trading Standards Services to remove all meat products manufactured by Block and Cleaver from the market due to concerns they do not meet GB food law requirements.
Restaurants, cafés and hotels have been told to withdraw any of these items from sale as they are unsafe and “should not be eaten”.
Any food businesses that have already sold these products at retail or directly to consumers should undertake product recalls and inform their local authorities, who have been asked to get in touch with the FSA.
These products may have incorrect use by dates, are subject to traceability breaches and should not be eaten as they were not prepared in line with food safety and hygiene legislative requirements.
All beef meat and meat products; pork meat and meat products; and chicken meat and meat products with a use by date up to and including 20 June 2024 from Block and Cleaver should be removed from sale.
