Tequila and mezcal bar Hacha in Dalston, London’s only agaveria, is to expand with a second site due to open in Brixton’s Market Row in late August.
The new space will comprise a ground floor bottle shop and bar with a cocktail lounge upstairs.
Mexican street food brand Maiz Azul, which operates the kitchen at the Dalston site, will also oversee the food offering. Many ingredients for the food and beverage will be sourced from Brixton market.
Hacha Brixton will also serve as a community hub and headquarters for founder Deano Moncrieffe's Equal Measures project, which seeks to improve diversity and tackle racism in the hospitality industry. The space will host free training, apprenticeship and mentorship schemes, classes and practical sessions covering various aspects of the hospitality industry.
Posting on Instagram, Moncrieffe (pictured) said: “Our mission is to make sure everyone has an opportunity for growth will make our new space. We will strive to be more than a bar.”
