Reports have suggested supply chain disruption has resulted in a shortage of Greggs’ vegan sausage rolls.
According to Reuters, Greggs branches in Twickenham, Richmond, Earls Court, Canary Wharf and South Woodford have all experienced shortages of the product this week.
A statement from the group said: “Like others, we're seeing temporary interruptions which are affecting the supply for some of our products. Our stock levels will vary from day to day but we are working hard to minimise any impact on the availability of our products."
Earlier this year Greggs admitted it was seeing “temporary interruptions in supply for some ingredients”. Supply chain issues this year have seen McDonald’s run out of bottled drinks and milkshakes and the group was also forced to temporarily remove its chicken legend from delivery menus across the UK and Ireland. Nando's had to close around 50 of its restaurants and lend 70 employees to short-staffed suppliers.
The launch of Greggs’ much-publicised vegan sausage roll helped to serve up a significant sales boost in 2019, however, earlier this year the company reported the first loss in its history as a listed business for the 2020 financial year, posting a pre-tax loss of £13.7m.
