Green light for Goodwood hotel's 16-bedroom extension

Goodwood hotel near Chichester, West Sussex, has been given the go-ahead to add 16 bedrooms to the existing four-AA-star, 91-bedroom property.

Development work will now start on the hotel after the South Downs National Park Authority approved plans to extend the property on the 12,000-acre Good Estate Estate to 107 bedrooms.

Alongside the multi-million pound expansion led by the estate’s architects 3D Reid, the hotel will also undergo an extensive transformation, which will reference the former historic walled garden that once existed on the site. A new reception area will be created and the public spaces reconfigured in a quintessentially English style created by Leveson Design, which was responsible for the hotel’s two-AA-rosette Farmer, Butcher, Chef restaurant.

The work will include the implementation of renewable energy sources and improved sustainability measures including the installation of a biomass boiler to provide the hotel’s heating.

Andrew Coggings, Goodwood’s entertaining and hospitality managing director, said: “We are thrilled to be given the go-ahead to move forward with this exciting project and take the Goodwood hotel to the next level.”

The hotel will remain open during the redevelopment. Coggings added: “We wish to reassure our customers and members that the work will be carried out in planned phases to ensure minimum disruption.”

Owned by the Duke of Richmond, Goodwood Estate is home to the annual Festival of Speed, Qatar Goodwood Festival and Goodwood Revival.
