Gary Usher's Channel 4 documentary to air this autumn

A documentary charting Gary Usher's journey to opening Pinion restaurant in Prescot will air on Channel 4 this autumn.

The one-hour documentary follows the Elite Bistros founder's journey to convert a former betting shop into the town's first new restaurant to open in 30 years.

It will include the initial crowdfunding campaign, which saw him smash his £50,000 target in less than an hour, as well as the chef's efforts to convince a town of sceptical locals to fall in love with deep-fried pig's head croquettes and steak tartare.

At the time Usher, who featured in The Caterer's Top 100 Most Powerful People in Hospitality, said that he hoped Pinion would become part of the regeneration of the area, which had seen a drop in footfall since a shopping complex opened nearby.

Elite Bistros comprises Kala in Manchester; Sticky Walnut in Hoole; Burnt Truffle in Heswall; Hispi, in Didsbury; Wreckfish in Liverpool; and Pinion in Prescot.
