Gary Rhodes will launch a restaurant in the West Country next year, with the opening of Rhodes West in Plymouth.
The Michelin-starred chef plans to open the new restaurant at the city's Dome next summer. It marks a return to the West Country for Rhodes after he closed his restaurants King's Rhodes and Rhodes South in Christchurch, Dorset, in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
Rhodes West will comprise a 100-seat bar and brasserie with private dining facilities serving a modern British menu. Located at the 16,000sq ft Dome, it will be the only restaurant at the building overlooking Plymouth Sound.
Commenting on the new launch, Rhodes said: "The opportunity to open a restaurant in Plymouth, especially one in such a superb location, was simply an opportunity not to be missed. I am already starting to put together ideas for the menus which, given the abundance of local and high quality produce, is a genuine delight."
Sarah O'Leary, Plymouth Waterfront manager, added: "Rhodes West will be a huge boost for the waterfront, Plymouth's reputation nationally and the PWP's wider strategy to grow the visitor economy."
Rhodes's arrival in Plymouth will mark the second celebrity chef-led restaurant in the Devon city after Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage, which will open at the Royal William Yard development next month.
Rhodes operates two Michelin-starred restaurants in London, Rhodes 24 in the City and Rhodes W1 at the Cumberland Hotel near Marble Arch. He also has two restaurants in Dubai, Mezzanine and Rhodes Twenty10.
