First-time hoteliers to open £2m luxury hotel in Anglesey

First-time hoteliers Phil and Louise Goodwin are set to open a £2m luxury hotel later this year in Anglesey.

Former lawyer Louise and her husband, private equity investor Phil, have acquired the former SandyMount pub on Rhosneigr High Street with the intention of transforming it into Sandy Mount House: a luxury, design-led hotel with seven bedrooms, bar and restaurant.

The pair are based in Bowdon, Greater Manchester, but own a holiday home in Rhosneigr and plan to relocate to the area in the future.

Designer Michelle Derbyshire is overseeing the refurbishment and One Call Management will operate the business when it opens.

Hefin Roberts (pictured right), former executive chef of Bodnant Welsh Food Centre and head chef at the Bull in Beaumaris, has been appointed head chef to oversee the venue's 120-cover restaurant, which will offer relaxed, all-day family dining. He will also be recruiting a kitchen team over the coming months.

Roberts said: "The opportunity to create something new is always a challenge relished by chefs. I am delighted to be involved in bringing this new venue to Rhosneigr and can't wait to get started on developing the menus."

Louise Goodwin said: "It was always our intention to try and recruit a local chef to lead our kitchen. We are delighted to welcome on board a chef of his calibre, to help deliver this exciting new venture for us."

One Call's Kaushik Mistry added: "We are delighted to welcome Hefin. Hefin's first challenge with us will be to develop an exciting and eclectic menu with a strong emphasis on supporting good quality local suppliers and produce."

The development has received £260,000 of funding from the Micro Small Business Fund (MSBF) through the Welsh Government Rural Communities - Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government.
