Fairyhill hotel to undergo six-figure extension

The Fairyhill hotel in Reynoldston, Swansea, has announced six-figure expansion plans to transform the Grade II-listed property into a wedding venue and hotel.

The eight-bedroom property in south Wales, which the AA awarded five gold stars in its restaurant with rooms category and two rosettes for its restaurant, is owned and operated by independent wedding specialists Oldwalls. It has been part of the Oldwalls Collection since the company acquired it for a seven-figure sum in November 2016 from Andrew Hetherington and Paul Davies after more than 20 years.

A glass orangery to be used as a wedding and event space, will be built next to the Georgian mansion with panoramic views of Fairyhill's grounds. It will be connected to the main house through the hotel's Billiard Room, which itself will become a stylish second bar to cope with the demand of events. Plans are also being considered for additional accommodation and car parking.

The organisation was granted planning permission on the extension proposal this week and construction is set to commence imminently. The restaurant and hotel will remain open for the foreseeable future and the orangery will be complete later this year in anticipation of the 2018 wedding season.

The hotel has already seen investment in its public areas, kitchens and grounds following its acquisition.

Established in 2007 by Swansea-born brothers Andrew and Simon Hole, Oldwalls also owns and operates self-catering luxury cottages and the Oldwalls wedding venue on the Gower.

Managing director of the Oldwalls Collection, Andrew Hole, said: "With so many local independent hospitality businesses closing their doors due to the increased competition from big brand chains, [we have to] adapt and innovate to sustain trade. Having operated our award-winning flagship venue, Oldwalls Gower, for nearly a decade, we feel that we're in the fortunate position of understanding exactly what the wedding market wants and we have therefore tailored the build to especially suit wedding needs."
