Duddell's London closes after two years in the capital

Duddell's, the London offshoot of the Michelin-starred Hong Kong restaurant, has closed after two years operating in the capital.

In a statement the restaurant said that it was looking for a new Mayfair site for the project.

The restaurant, which closed this week, was set in St Thomas' Church, London Bridge, with a menu of Cantonese dishes and hand-crafted dim sum.

The closure was blamed on the challenges of operating in a Grade II listed church along with planning difficulties.

Duddell’s said in a statement: “After opening two years ago, Duddell’s London announced its plan to move to a new west end location. The closure of the London Bridge space comes as a result of continued planning challenges with the landlord and technical difficulties related to the Grade II listed church, which has prevented Duddell’s from fully realising its authentic Cantonese culinary vision. The Duddell’s development team is looking for a new site in Mayfair which will be announced in due course.”
