They join Abby Lee’s Mambow in London’s Clapton and Jason Atherton’s Sael in London’s St James’s.
Cornus in London’s Belgravia and Ardfern in Leith are among 23 new restaurants that have been added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland’s selection this month.
David O’Connor and Joe Mercer Nairne opened Cornus (pictured) in August, 13 years after the pair launched Chelsea stalwart Medlar back in 2011. The team brought in chef Gary Foulkes, who maintained a Michelin star for D&D London’s Angler and worked with O’Connor at Phil Howard’s the Square, to head up the kitchen, which was praised for its “restrained approach and consummate technical skill”.
Meanwhile, chef Roberta Hall-McCarron’s first foray into casual dining with all-day cafe, bar and bottle shop Ardfern was welcomed for its “heartiness and pleasing familiarity”.
Malaysian restaurants GaGa in Glasgow and Mambow in London’s Clapton were also added to the Guide, while modern restaurant Saga in Belfast was recognised for its highly executed dishes, as was Jason Atherton’s Sael in London’s St James’s.
Michelin updates its recommendations each month based on its inspectors’ travels, with any additions highlighted by a ‘New’ symbol.
It does not confirm if the restaurants will receive a star, Bib Gourmand or any other awards until the next formal Michelin Guide ceremony, which will take place in Glasgow on 10 February 2025.
