Coniston hotel reports record half-year turnover

The four-AA-star Coniston hotel in Skipton, North Yorkshire has reported a record half-year turnover of £3.6m to June 2017.

The 71-bedroom hotel, owned by the Bannister family, has particularly seen growth from the international market. Record turnover of £7.9m for the financial year to March 2018 is now expected, representing a 10% year-on-year growth.

The hotel opened a new £2.4m spa in late 2015 overlooking the Coniston Estate and 24-acre lake, and last year launched the Thack, a luxury holiday cottage for up to 10 guests.

The Coniston is planning a series of further investments over the next six months including enhancing its entrance, car park and bedrooms, developing to its 4×4 track, and making a number of key senior appointments.

Michael Bannister, chairman of the business, acquired the estate with his wife Ethne in 1969. Operations are headed by hotel director Louise Bolton.

Nick Bannister, director, said: "Over the past six months we have further invested into our hotel rooms, undertaken several refurbishment programmes across the hotel and completed a Wi-Fi upgrade.

"We've also invested heavily in our people. In addition to rolling out a new set of core values, we've seen 210 hours of training for our front of house staff and four members of our team have attained a Wine and Spirit Education Trust Level 2 qualification."

Bolton added: "Business has never been better in terms of occupancy rates. The staycation market continues to be strong and we have seen growth in our international customer base from both tourists and corporates."
