Southend restaurant Colenzo's has closed after less than six months trading due to "low bookings during the winter period".
Colenzo's opened in May in the site of Bourgee, a steak and lobster concept that launched in 2014 with a £100,000 taxpayer funded grant before closing in April. Southend Council is attempting to recover the grant.
A statement posted on the Colenzo's website confirmed the closure: "Catering Management Services Ltd, the company which acquired the former Bourgee restaurant in April 2018, opened Colenzo's with the view to offering first class food and service to the local community.
"The Southend location has proved to be a seasonal restaurant with low bookings during the winter period, the company has decided to close this location."
A sister Colenzo's venue in Chelmsford, which also occupies a former Bourgee site, remains open for business according to the company's website.
The Caterer has contacted Colenzo's for comment.
