Chefs to run London Marathon in memory of Matt Campbell

Chefs Jamie Park and Tom Peters will be running the London Marathon next year to raise money for the Brathay Trust in memory of Matt Campbell.

The private chef from Cumbria died aged 29 after collapsing at the 22.5-mile mark of the London Marathon in April, 3.7 miles from the finish line.

Peters, senior sous chef at Roux at Parliament Square, and Park, head chef at the Frog Hoxton, have pledged to run the marathon to raise money for the young peoples' charity Campbell was fundraising for earlier this year.

See Park's fundraising link and Peters' JustGiving page here.

The three were friends, having met as contestants on last year's BBC Two MasterChef: The Professionals competition and subsequently cooked at events together.

Park and Peters also set up an event to run the final 3.7 miles of the marathon in London shortly after Campbell's death. Hundreds of people took part and donated to the charity; and thousands ran the distance and held their own events elsewhere across the country.

Campbell's JustGiving page has since raised more than £15,000 for the Brathay Trust, which the charity has used to fund a schools-based programme called 3.7 for pupils struggling with mental ill health.

The Craft Guild of Chefs has also introduced an Extra Mile Award in memory of Campbell as part of its National Chef of the Year competition.
