Chef Nick Nairn closes Bridge of Allan restaurant

The closure comes a year after he relaunched Nick’s, which was devastated by a fire in August 2021, as Nairn’s.

Nick and Julia Nairn have closed Nairn’s in Bridge of Allan, Stirling, a year after reopening the restaurant.

The Herald reported that the chef had already returned his keys to the leaseholder of the property as the business was “no longer viable”.

News of the closure comes a year after the couple relaunched Nick’s, which was gutted by a “terrible” fire in August 2021 that required six fire engines and a support vehicle to be sent to the scene.

The fire was caused by a piece of kitchen equipment that malfunctioned during service on the evening of 28 August 2021.

Nairn’s reopened in the same site in July 2023, with a menu offering Scottish seafood, game and grass-fed meats, as well as pizzas.

The owners confirmed the closure of the Bridge of Allan restaurant in a reply to a Facebook comment.

In an Instagram post, they added: "It is with sadness that we announce the closure of our beautiful Bridge of Allan restaurant. We are immensely proud of the fantastic food, staff and culture created since our arrival on Henderson street in 2019 and we thank you for your support and appreciation of all that we brought to the high street. It’s been quite the journey.

"Today feels quite surreal and very raw, we plan to regroup with our team at Lake of Menteith, where it’s business as usual."

Nick’s at Port of Menteith remains open.
