Boxpark to open first Boxhall in Bristol

Shipping container concept Boxpark will open its first site outside of London, BoxHall in Bristol, scheduled for summer 2022.

The group has agreed a lease at Welsh Back Bristol’s O&M sheds. Unlike Boxpark developments, which focus on placemaking, Boxhall sites will be in existing buildings within town centres across the UK.

Opening in June 2022, BoxHall Bristol will have a food hall featuring local, independent street food traders and restaurant operators. The development is being delivered by Cordwell Property Group and Macaulay Sinclair will oversee the interior design.

The 20,000 sq ft venture will have seven kitchens and two external terraces overlooking the waterside. Opportunities for prospective tenants include turn-key kitchen solutions with turnover-only licences and BoxHall Bristol will also provide a community-led programme of events, as well as gaming experiences.

Boxhall is part of the group’s wider expansion plans to roll out a mixture of sites both inside and outside of London. Boxpark’s portfolio includes three London sites (Shoreditch, Croydon and Wembley), with further Boxhall locations to be announced later this year.

Boxpark chief executive and founder Roger Wade said: “Boxpark has always been an innovator in the food and beverage industry and this new development demonstrates our investment in continuing to evolve both the brand and the sites we build and operate in.”

The Cordwell Property Group development director said: “We are delighted to have signed up BoxHall for its first venture outside London, and to have finally secured a quality food and beverage operator who respects the historical significance of these much-valued dockside buildings and their surroundings, and whose interior design proposals will complement Cordwell’s sensitive regeneration of the site to provide a unique community-based hub for the residents of Bristol.”

Macaulay Sinclair director Mike Sinclair added: “Having worked with many well-known multi-site and independent restaurant and bar operators, we aim to create the most imaginative food hall interior to capture the essence of Bristol’s O&M sheds' historical value. Together we will bring a curated social dining experience to a stunning landmark location.”
