Björn Frantzén to open debut UK restaurant at Harrods

Chef Björn Frantzén, whose restaurants Frantzén in Stockholm and Zén in Singapore both hold three Michelin stars, is to open his first UK site at Harrods in London.

Details were scarce, however the restaurant is scheduled to open in late 2022, will feature Frantzén’s “signature cuisine” and be a "state-of-the-art flagship restaurant in a prime location" within the store.

Frantzén said: “I worked in England early on my career and really got a feel for, in my opinion, one of the most interesting cities in the world, so it feels right to be coming back to open in London. Over the past few years there have been several projects and opportunities arise in London, but none have felt right until now. It is an honour to be opening at Harrods as one of the most celebrated institutions in the world.”

Ashley Saxton, general manager of restaurants at Harrods, added: “At Harrods, we have been developing an impressive portfolio of locally and internationally acclaimed chefs, and welcoming Björn Frantzén – recognised as one of the world’s greatest chefs - into Harrods is a monumental next step. Harrods is a culinary destination that offers something for every customer, whether that is an experience in the historical Dining Hall or at one of our exclusive restaurant venues. For us now to be bringing the creativity and culinary innovation of Björn Frantzén’s to our guests is hugely exciting.”

Frantzén is an honorary judge of this year’s Roux Scholarship, taking place at the end of the month, after 2019 Roux Scholar Spencer Metzger chose to spend his three-month winning placement at Frantzén’s Stockholm restaurant.

Restaurant Frantzén was the first restaurant in Sweden to be awarded three Michelin stars. Situated in a three-storey, 19th-century townhouse in the Norrmalm district, it offers a set tasting menu, which is served to 23 covers at lunch and dinner, with chefs preparing and presenting dishes from an open kitchen. The style of cooking combines classic and modern techniques, inspired by local traditions, with a strong Asian influence.
