Birmingham hotels celebrate announcement of 2022 Commonwealth Games

Hotels in Birmingham will be among the major beneficiaries of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which is to be hosted in the city.

It is anticipated that the Games will generate a £526m boost to the West Midlands region, and between 500,000 to one million additional visitors are expected to visit Birmingham during the event.

Nicholas Northam, managing director for the UK at Interstate Europe Hotels & Resorts, said: “With several of our UK hotels here in Birmingham, as well as our own offices, we’re thrilled to hear that Birmingham has won the bid to welcome the Commonwealth Games to the city in 2022.

“The event’s arrival will undoubtedly bring numerous benefits to the region, especially from a tourism perspective, further strengthening the city’s position as a great location for travel, sports and culture. Coupled with the city’s excellent transport links, flourishing hospitality sector and the welcoming community here, I have no doubt that Birmingham will do an outstanding job as host.”
