The Master Innholders has announced that applications for its 2018 scholarships are now open.
Aimed at both general managers and heads of departments working in the UK hospitality sector, the scholarships are worth up to £10,000 each and enable successful applicants to learn from industry leaders about market evolution, future challenges, managerial skills and global demands.
Funded by the Worshipful Company of Innholders, the Savoy Educational Trust, the Lord Forte Foundation and the Master Innholders Charitable Trust, the scholarships have been designed to give management-level professionals access to further training which is not always readily available in the workplace.
Priority is given to those who are in the greatest need of financial support, recognising that small, independent businesses can lack the resources required to offer comprehensive training opportunities. Successful candidates must demonstrate clear management potential and show dedication to maintaining and driving professional standards across the industry.
The scholarships offer hospitality professionals the chance to undergo training at one of three international universities providing hospitality and business qualifications.
The scholarships available:
⢠Cranfield talent development programme â" Cranfield University, Buckinghamshire
⢠The professional development programme â" Cornell University, New York
⢠The general managers' programme â" Cornell University, New York
Graduates will go on to join the St Julian Scholars, the alumni association for scholarship graduates that provides mentoring to hospitality professionals, supports the works of industry charities and organises training and networking events.
Managing director of the Ned hotel and chairman of the St Julian Scholars Gareth Banner took part in the general managers' programme at Cornell University in 2012. He said: âMy time spent at Cornell was rich in content and I refer to different aspects of the programme at different times. Depending on market conditions, the type of business, the macro-environment or the competitive landscape, I draw on all the various topics covered on the general managers' programme at some point.â
The deadline for applications is 14 July. For more information and details of how to apply, visit www.masterinnholders.co.uk/scholarship.
