AccorHotels has announced the signing of a joint Novotel hotel and Adagio aparthotel in Leicester, under a franchise agreement with Charles Street Buildings Group (CSB).
The site , which will involve a 150-bedroom Novotel hotel and 100-bedroom Adagio aparthotel, will be operated by Interstate hotel management. Itwill be the first combined Novotel/Adagio property and the first Adagio-franchised hotel in the UK.
The hotel site is located opposite the Highcross shopping centre and is currently seeking planning permission. It is scheduled to open in 2019, alongside new build offices, a restoration of the former Leicester Central railway station and a new public area to be known as Great Central Square.
The Novotel/Adagio Leicester will bring the number of Novotel hotels in the UK to 37 and the number of Adagio aparthotels to four. Novotel is a midscale brand for business and leisure travellers, while Adagio aparthotels combine the facilites of an apartment with hotel services.
Thomas Dubaere, managing director of AccorHotels UK & Ireland, said: "The Novotel network in the UK is showing strong growth, with the signing in Leicester complementing recent announcements in Canary Wharf, Heathrow and Stansted. We are seeking further growth and our development team is actively seeking new opportunities to add to our portfolio across our brands, particularly in the economy and midscale segments."
Karim Malak, Adagio deputy chief executive, added: "The UK remains our priority market for expansion, following a period of growth in Latin America and the Middle East. The new property will be our fourth in the UK, following openings in Liverpool, Birmingham and most recently, Edinburgh. We are in discussion with other partners and sites across the UK with a review to establishing 10 properties in the UK by 2020."
