Abersoch Whitehouse hotel to reopen in 2019

The Whitehouse hotel in Abersoch in Gwynedd, north Wales, is set to reopen in 2019 as construction begins on the site of the now demolished hotel.

The property closed in 2004 and has since laid derelict, until owner Jane McLean of North Wales-based developer Broomco received planning permission to transform the site into a £11.7m 40-bedroom hotel and 18 luxury apartments in 2015. The building was demolished last year.

The hotel was acquired by the McLean family more than 10 years ago for approximately £1m. Planning permission was intially regjected for the scheme due to a lack of affordable housing in the area, and a rare breed of bat being found in the building.

The new hotel will feature a fine dining restaurant and cocktail bar on the lower ground floor, a larger informal ground floor restaurant and bar, a cinema room, a spa with five treatment rooms and an indoor swimming pool. The apartments will sit within the same building as the hotel and share access to the facilities.

The interior design will be inspired by the hotel's beachside location, combining polished concrete floors with sawn whitewashed timber walls, while the hotel and apartments will also offer boat storage, hire and watersports.
