AA launches accreditation scheme for serviced accommodation

The AA is launching a new star rating scheme for serviced accommodation to reflect the growth of the sector comprising aparthotels and extended stay properties.

 

Businesses which join the AA accreditation scheme will be rated from three to five stars and will be differentiated from other properties which undergo assessment including hotels, restaurants, guest accommodation, self-catering accommodation and caravan and campsites.

 

The serviced accommodation category will cover aparthotels, corporate housing, residences, suites, studio and extended stay.

 

Alistair Sandall, commercial manager at AA Hotel & Hospitality Services, said: "We have seen the growth in the market in recent years and both the industry and the guest now see a real need for quality accreditation for the market to mature and grow.

 

"This new scheme has been developed through our many years of experience and expertise and complements our suite of quality accreditation and consultancy products and services."

 

The AA star rating scheme won't be the first for the serviced accommodation sector in the UK. Three years ago the Association of Serviced Apartment Providers (ASAP) launched the global International Serviced Apartment Accreditation Programme in partnership with the US-based trade body the Corporate Housing Providers Association.

 

James Foice, chief executive of the ASAP, said he welcomed the launch of the AA's accreditation scheme and the exposure it will bring to the serviced apartment sector.

 

"The ASAP's quality accreditation programme is now well established both in the UK and also increasingly across the world. The AA's serviced accommodation standard is an excellent opportunity to promote the many benefits of serviced apartments to a new audience".

 

ASAP currently represents 155 members with over 100,000 apartments in 10 countries.
