Former Fat Duck chef to head restaurant where everything is served on toast

A restaurant where the majority of food is served on toast is due to open in Altrincham, Cheshire, at the end of this week.

The 56-cover Toast will open on Stamford New Road with head chef Edward Carr, formerly of the Fat Duck, Aumbry and Dabbous, at the helm.

The concept is the brainchild of owner and manager Justin Orange (the twin brother of Jason from Take That) following a stint at Teacup Kitchen, a café and restaurant in Manchester's Northern Quarter.

It was during this time Orange met Carr who wanted to branch out and do his own thing.

There are even toast-based desserts like chocolate and melted marshmallow on toast, peaches and cream on toast and strawberry and ricotta on toast.

The dishes can be plated on five varieties, plus a gluten free option, of freshly baked breads.

For diners not in the mood for toasted dishes, there's a selection of four meals omitting the ingredient: butternut squash, thyme, honey and goats cheese; honey mustard chicken with baby gem, tomato and asparagus; soft boiled egg with peas, mint, ricotta and radish; and avocado, red peppers, spinach and pine nuts.

Designed by De Freitas Design, Toast features coppers and glass alongside exposed original features of the building. It also has an outside area which can seat 16.
