Award-winning Orkney restaurant with rooms for sale

An award-winning restaurant with rooms on the Orkney island of South Ronaldsay has been placed on the market with the Edinburgh office of Colliers Robert Barry.

The Creel restaurant has been run by Alan Craigie (the 2006 Scottish Restaurant Chef of the Year) and his wife Joyce since 1985.

The restaurant holds two AA rosettes and the business has an overall four-star rating from the Scottish Tourist Board.

It overlooks the bay and pier in the waterside village of St Margarets Hope, which is 15 miles south of the island's airport and capital, Kirkwall.

South Ronaldsay is the closest of the northern islands to the Scottish mainland with which it has regular air and ferry links.

The business comprises a 30-seat restaurant with bar servery, a lounge, and a 12-seat breakfast room that doubles as a private dining area. Many of the public areas feature distinctive Orkney slate flooring.

The three en-suite bedrooms (two family rooms and one twin) can sleep up to eight guests and there are additional rooms on the second floor that could be let or converted into owners' accommodation.

The Edinburgh office of Colliers Robert Barry is seeking offers in excess of £285,000 for the feuhold on the property. The current owners' house next door to the restaurant is also being offered for a similar sum through solicitor TP Low in Kirkwall.
