Bavarian brewery Paulaner is seeking franchise partners to bring its three restaurant and bar brands to the UK.
Property firm Christie & Co has been appointed to find hospitality entrepreneurs or investment groups to open up to 10 sites across the country over the next few years.
Paulaner was founded in Munich in 1634 and now runs almost 40 sites serving food and beer around the world, including seven in Germany as well as bars in Singapore, Shanghai, and Indonesia.
Its restaurants are described as an “authentic Bavarian hospitality experience” and are split into three categories: the Bräuhaus with an on-site microbrewery, the Wirtshaus based around food matched with Paulaner beers, and the Bierhaus, which is designed as a traditional Bavarian pub.
In the UK market, the brand said it was looking for franchise partners to invest in “high traffic locations in major towns and cities in the UK”.
Lars Eckart, managing director of Paulaner Franchise and Consulting said: “We are convinced that we can achieve great success with our Paulaner breweries and pubs in the UK.
“The market is ready for us. Paulaner stands for outstanding beer culture, brewed in accordance with the German Purity Law. We now want to bring this centuries-old craft of brewing closer to British beer lovers.”
Simon Chaplin, senior director – pubs, restaurants and franchise at Christie & Co, added: “Offering a unique combination of traditional and modern Bavarian lifestyle, the brand has a proven customer appeal, and a franchise model that works for both sides, so we expect some strong interest in the opportunity.”
It comes after German beer hall brand Bierschenke, which sells Paulaner, opened a 12,000 sq ft site in London’s Covent Garden earlier this year. It offers a menu of German beers and sausages and staff wear traditional Lederhosen.
