Fast-food chain Wimpy has announced its revival as it plans a nationwide expansion.
Wimpy, which opened in 1954 in London once had more than 500 sites around the UK. It currently has 80 branches due to the introduction of American brands such as KFC, McDonalds and Burger King.
A Wimpy spokeswoman said to the Daily Star: "We do have some exciting new plans in terms of continued expansion and an investment programme."
Market experts have expressed concerns for Wimpyâs expansion due to the publicâs shift in preference from fast food to healthy snacks. This week it was announced that McDonalds would be introducing a vegan burger, while Greggs now offer healthy options.
It will also be competing against new fast-food joints such as Five Guys and Shake Shack.
Wimpy is owned by Famous Brands, which is based in South Africa. The Famous Brands portfolio includes PAUL and Gourmet Burger Kitchen.
