The Aubrey Japanese restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London has launched a private omakase experience, the Ukiyo Room.
Situated behind a hidden entrance in the Aubrey restaurant, up to eight guests can experience an omakase menu devised by the Aubrey chefs with a drinks experience created by head sommelier Maxim Kassir.
Kassir said that the name of the restaurant translated as the ‘floating world’, an imagined Japanese universe of hedonism and extravagance.
He will oversee the room presenting a drinks pairing of Champagne, wine and sake starting at £150 per guest to accompany the £175 multi-course menu.
Dishes will vary daily and guest will only learn what they are to be served on the night, but the menu may include A5 wagyu gunkan with caviar, slowed cooked lobster with uni, and Alaskan king crab leg with kimuchi.
The experience will only be available for one sitting an evening and required exclusive hire, though a set menu based on the Ukiyo room will be available in the main restaurant.
