A Lincolnshire businessman and regular guest at Polurrian on the Lizard in Cornwall has purchased the hotel for an undisclosed sum.
Travel Sector Property Limited (TSPL) has concluded its off-market acquisition of the property freehold and its surrounding 12 acres of grounds, including part of the Polurrian Cove beach.
All employees at the Polurrian, including general manager Grant Callaghan, will continue to be employed. The new owners have also entered into a management agreement with the vendor group, Luxury Hotel Management under the helm of Nigel Chapman.
Andrew Long, principal director of TSPL said: “We are delighted to have acquired the Polurrian, which has many happy memories for my family and I since first discovering this wonderful location some 32 years ago.
"We are proud to own this iconic hotel and to further endorse our Cornwall connections, with regular visits for business and pleasure each year.”
Long co-founded the Extra Motorway Services Areas Group, where he continues to be chief executive and an investor.
Nigel Chapman, principal of Luxury Hotel Management said: “We are delighted to be working jointly with Andrew and his team. It’s great to see the next chapter for the Polurrian successfully unfolding and to know that there will be a significant further investment into this much-loved hotel.”
Polurrian on the Lizard first opened in 1912. The 41-bedroom hotel's communal areas were refurbished in 2019, and the property has an ocean view lounge, bar area, restaurant with a wood-fired oven, snug and games room, spa, gym and pool, as well as six self-catering villas.
