Michael Magrane, the face of the Midland hotel in Manchester for 11 years, is leaving QHotels after 14 years to move to London as operations director of GLH Hotels.
He takes up his new position in early 2017, when he will oversee 14 hotels in the capital operating under the Amba, Every , Thistle and Thistle Express brands.
As well as leaving his role as regional general manager, which encompasses the four-AA-star, 312-bedroom Midland hotel, Magrane will also step down as director of asset development of QHotels, which owns and operates 26 properties across the UK.
Michael Purtill, managing director of QHotels, said: "Mike has been a key part of QHotels and represents completely what makes our company so successful. His experience, commercial and industry knowledge, as well as his energy in driving for continual improvements have been reflected in many achievements over the past few years - not just at the Midland as our flagship hotel but for QHotels as a whole.
"It is Mike's drive and ambition that has led him to secure a fantastic new role in his already successful career and he will be greatly missed by all of us at QHotels. We wish him the best of luck in his new role and I know his passion for hospitality will continue to influence the industry for many years to come."
Magrane started his hotel career with Forte Hotels and was appointed to his first general manager position in 1996. He moved to the Midland hotel in 2005, having previously been general manager at sister property, the Queens hotel in Leeds
QHotels is now in the process of recruiting for Magraneâs replacement.
