Hilton to introduce Canopy brand to London as part of £76m scheme

Hilton Worldwide is to open its first Canopy branded hotel in London in 2018.

The lifestyle hotel will form part of the £76m 16 Minories scheme in Aldgate. Canopy London City will be operated under franchise by 4C Hotel Group.

The London hotel will follow the launch of the Canopy brand in Reykjavik, Iceland, this summer. Canopy hotels will be designed to be intimate and modern, drawing design inspiration from their surroundings.

Canopy by Hilton London City will be influenced by the nearby Whitechapel Gallery and the history of the local area.

Gary Steffen, global head, Canopy by Hilton, said: "Canopy offers travellers a fresh experience in the lifestyle category with surprising extras and local knowhow. Aldgate was chosen for its proximity to both the stylish City of London and the more edgy and energetic East End."

Construction is under way at the 16 Minories development, which will include an office building, residential block and square alongside the new hotel.

The metal-clad hotel will include the Canopy Central lobby concept, which will be designed to reflect the East End neighbourhood, while guests will receive a welcome gift inspired by London. A rooftop bar will offer views over the city, and guests will be offered free Wi-Fi and an artisanal breakfast.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Hilton Worldwide, said: "London is a city of many incredibly eclectic neighbourhoods. Located within the historic City of London and adjacent to areas such as Whitechapel and Spitalfields, Aldgate is an ideal fit for the introduction of the UK's first Canopy by Hilton.

"We are delighted to be working with 4C Hotel Group to further enhance this vibrant quarter of London, a city where we'll soon have seven of our world class brands operating."

4C Hotel Group managing director Al-karim Nathoo added: "With a number of our hotels across East Africa and Canada operating under the DoubleTree by Hilton brands, we are excited about the addition of the Canopy brand to our UK portfolio and the strengthening of our ongoing partnership with Hilton Worldwide. As the hotel industry continues to evolve we believe this lifestyle hotel will be a game-changing development in London."
