The winners of The Caterer's 2022 Hotel Cateys were revealed at a glittering ceremony at the Royal Lancaster London this evening with Northcote managing director Craig Bancroft awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award.
Since his arrival in 1983 Bancroft has transformed the Ribble Valley hotel into a gastronomic haven, attaining four red AA stars and a Michelin star for its restaurant. Known for his warmth and expertise in all things food and wine, Bancroft was described by his former apprentice Stuart Procter (now chief operating officer of the Stafford Collection, of which Northcote is a part) as “the most fabulous mine host, one of the best in the world”.
During an illustrious career Bancroft has received many accolades, including being named The Caterer's Hotelier of the Year in 2016 and receiving the Wine and Spirit Ambassador Award at the 2017 Cateys.
He also established the hugely successful Obsession, which is now in its 23rd year. The homage to food and wine is one of Europe’s premier gastronomic events and sees guest chefs travel from around the world to take part, while raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity each year.
The Extra Mile Award went to Red Carnation’s managing director Jonathan Raggett, who this year cycled the 21 stages covering the gruelling 3,500km Tour de France route one week ahead of the professional race, raising £56,000 for Cure Leukaemia.
Other individuals to be recognised during the evening included Lisa Williams of the Grand in York, who won Housekeeper of the Year; and Linda Smith of Moonfleet Manor in Dorset, who was awarded Front of House Manager of the Year.
The hotel chef of the year awards went to George Blogg, executive head chef of Gravetye Manor in Sussex (fewer than 250 covers); Dominic Teague, executive chef of One Aldwych in London (more than 250 covers); and Chris Cleghorn, head chef of the Olive Tree restaurant at the Queensberry hotel in Bath (Hotel Restaurant Chef of the Year).
Meanwhile, the Ritz London walked away with Hotel Restaurant Team of the Year and Fowey Hall in Cornwall scooped Front of House Team of the Year.
