Great British Menu will return to television screens for its 19th series starting tonight (23 January).
This year’s chefs will compete to cook at a banquet wishing Team GB athletes good luck ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The programme will be hosted by TV chef and broadcaster Andi Oliver, chef Tom Kerridge, development chef and chief executive of Mowgli Street Food restaurants Nisha Katona and comedian Ed Gamble.
Dishes in the first episode will also be judged by chef Aktar Islam of Michelin-starred Opheem in Birmingham.
The chefs starring in tonight’s north-east heats are Cal Byerley, chef patron of Pine in Newcastle; Samira Effa, head chef of EightyEight in Grantley Hall in Ripon, Yorkshire; Scott John-Hodgson, head chef of Solstice in Newcastle; and Adam Degg, head chef of Horto restaurant in Yorkshire. They will be tasked with cooking canapés, starters and fish dishes.
