The first six restaurants to make the shortlist of The Caterer’s Menu of the Years Catey award 2020 have been revealed.
Those shortlisted for the Menu of the Year, sponsored by Teflon, have been selected by a panel of industry judges from Menuwatch articles which ran in the last six months.
The restaurants that go through to the judging in April 2020 are Hide and Fox in Saltwood, Kent (pictured), Darsham Nurseries in Saxmundham, Suffolk, and Levan in Peckham, London. They were featured between August 2019 and October 2019.
They join the French House in London’s Soho, Lorne in Pimlico, London, and the Mariners in Padstow, which appeared in The Caterer’s Menuwatch feature between May 2019 and July 2019.
The menus are judged on innovation within the price bracket of that particular establishment or contract; good use of seasonal produce on the menu; creativity of the dishes being served; careful marrying of textures and flavours of the component ingredients; value for money; and, seeing the menu or selection of dishes, whether the judges would be tempted to eat there.
Last year Pam Brunton’s Inver in Argyll and Bute took the award. The restaurant beat competition from Clenaghans in County Armagh, Flitch of Bacon in Essex and Old Downton Lodge in Shropshire.
