David Carter’s Oma and Louth in Lincolnshire are among eight new restaurants that have been added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland’s selection this month.
Oma opened in April in London’s Borough Market led by head chef Jorge Paredes. Its menu includes contemporary interpretations of nostalgic Greek dishes cooked on a hearth, in traditional clay pots sourced from Crete.
It has received a series of rave reviews, including one from Giles Coren in The Times, who described it as his “slam-dunk best-of-the-year-so-far”.
As the name suggest, Auction House in Louth is set in a former auction house, where chef Gareth Bartram serves modern British cuisine with international influences, including a beef cheek sando and pan-seared cod loin with courgette, rouille, bouillabaisse and flatbread. The Michelin Guide said his “classical skill is evident in the well-constructed and suitably flavourful dishes”.
A second restaurant, in London’s Borough Market, was added to the guide in July, a location that Michelin described as an “ever-growing foodie hotspot”.
Kolae (pictured) is the second Thai outpost from the pair behind Som Saa in London’s Spitalfields. The buzzy 80-cover restaurant’s emergence “has been music to the ears of Thai food fanatics across London”, according to the Michelin Guide.
The guide updates its recommendations each month based on its inspectors’ travels, with any additions highlighted by a ‘New’ symbol.
It does not confirm if the restaurants will receive a star, Bib Gourmand or any other awards until the next formal Michelin Guide ceremony, which will likely take place early next year.
