CitizenM for London's Tower Hill moves a step closer

The opening of a 370-bedroom CitizenM is moving closer to reality following the announcement that construction company Balfour Beatty has been appointed to build the £30m hotel, near the Tower of London.

Traditional construction methods will be used to build the basement and ground floor of the boutique hotel brand's latest property, while modular methods will be used for levels one to eight, with each bedroom being constructed off site and craned into position.

The hotel, which will be located over the exit hall of the Tower Hill London Underground Station, will include a ground floor café and a SocietyM business club on the eighth and ninth floors.

Due to be completed in autumn 2014, the new CitizenM will overlook the Tower of London with the remains of an ancient Roman wall running past it.

The hotel is one of two CitizenM hotels, alongside one near St Paul's Cathedral, due to open in London next year. There are currently four Citizen M hotels, including one each in Glasgow and near the Tate Modern in London, and two in Amsterdam.

The group is targeting future developments in Victoria, Paddington, Marylebone, Kings Cross, Soho, Covent Garden, Oxford Street and Canary Wharf.
